Ethereum Developers Preparing for Shanghai Hard Fork in 2023

-Ethereum developers are preparing to deploy a public testnet for the highly anticipated Shanghai hard fork in February 2023, with the mainnet implementation tentatively scheduled for March.
-The meeting mostly focused on the removal of EOF implementation from Shanghai, and developers decided not to review any Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) related to EOF until the Shanghai hard fork has completed.
-Galaxy Digital’s research associate Christine Kim and Ethereum core developer Tim Beiko summarized the ACD meeting, noting that the current developer test network for Shanghai has already progressed to block 4,000.

Ethereum developers are hard at work to ensure the success of the highly anticipated Shanghai hard fork, with a public testnet scheduled for deployment in February 2023 and mainnet implementation tentatively set for March. The 151st All Core Devs (ACD) meeting was held on Jan. 5, 2023 to discuss the progress of the hard fork, and the removal of Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) related to EVM Object Format changes, or EOF, was the main focus. This decision was taken to ensure that the focus remains on staked withdrawals.

Galaxy Digital’s research associate Christine Kim and Ethereum core developer Tim Beiko provided updates on the development of the testnet. According to Beiko, “a first devnet was set up with all client combinations right before Christmas, and while they are all running, some pairs have more issues than others.” Kim added that Devops programmer Barnabus Busa reported that the current developer test network for Shanghai, which was launched shortly before Christmas, has already progressed to block 4,000.

The team is working hard to ensure that staked withdrawals are a priority, and the ACD meeting concluded with a discussion on the timeline for the launch of the Shanghai hard fork. Developers are aiming for the deployment of the public testnet in February, with the mainnet implementation to follow soon after.

The Ethereum community is excited for the Shanghai hard fork, as it is expected to bring improved security, scalability, and interoperability to the network. Developers are confident that the hard fork will be successful and are aiming to complete all necessary preparations as soon as possible.
